I am delighted to open a space in the historic city of Athens and we look forward to becoming part of the thriving contemporary art scene of this extraordinary city.
—Larry Gagosian

Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce the inauguration of a new venue in Athens.

Opened in 1979 in New York by Larry Gagosian, Gagosian Gallery is one of the world's foremost modern and contemporary art galleries and one of the few that can lay claim to a truly global reach. With the addition of the Athens space, there are now nine locations worldwide, including New York, Beverly Hills, London, Rome, and Hong Kong.

Over the last three decades, Gagosian Gallery has presented countless memorable exhibitions of leading international artists including Georg Baselitz, Cecily Brown, Walter De Maria, Douglas Gordon, Richard Hamilton, Damien Hirst, Howard Hodgkin, Mike Kelley, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Jenny Saville, Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Philip Taaffe, Cy Twombly, Piotr Uklański, Franz West, Rachel Whiteread, and Christopher Wool.

Parallel to this dynamic and diverse contemporary program, Gagosian Gallery has mounted ambitious, museum-quality exhibitions of the work of such modern masters as Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joseph Beuys, Willem de Kooning, Alberto Giacometti, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, David Smith, and Andy Warhol. The recent, highly acclaimed Picasso exhibition "Mosqueteros" in New York drew almost 100,000 viewers in ten weeks. The exhibitions are accompanied by the scholarly monographs, innovative catalogues, and limited editions that comprise Gagosian's unparalleled publishing program.

Gagosian Gallery is known for elegant, distinctive exhibition spaces with clean, classical lines. The Athens location, designed by Michelle Ballard, occupy 90 square meters of ground floor space in the very center of the city, just steps away from Syntagma Square and the Greek Parliament. It will be a showcase for artists represented by Gagosian Gallery as well as a platform of information for exhibitions on view in Gagosian Gallery's other locations around the world.

The inaugural exhibition, Cy Twombly: "Leaving Paphos Ringed with Waves" will open to the public on September 25, 2009.

Harn Museum of Art

This university museum offers a wide collection of art; African, Asian, Modern, Contemporary and Photography. I was impressed by the exhibitions on view; Art Media and Material Witness and Rediscovering Slobodkina. If you're in Gainesville, it's well worth a visit, along with the Museum of Natural History's Butterfly Rainforest.

Gatorland

The hotel I'm staying in is on a lake, and this morning I heard a roar from outside the window. I went out to the terrace and there was an alligator, with its mouth open! I ran back into the room and got my camera. Here are some pics.

Eric Shiner: Curator of the Andy Warhol Museum, La Rentree!

We all love Eric. I think I say this without bias. We really do! He curated some film from Warhol at the garden at the Soho Grand yesterday. Jeremy Kost invited him to the party he's been hosting this summer.
Lady Fag was a wonderful host too.

About the Exhibition

The groundbreaking exhibition itself features 35 artists living and working in Iran, some exhibiting abroad for the first time, alongside 20 others from around the world living in the Diaspora. The result is a multifarious portrait of 55 contemporary Iranian artists challenging the conventional perceptions of Iran and Iranian art.

In Iran Inside Out, 210 contemporary works comprising of painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation come together, in a rare moment which allows visitors an intimate look into the people, both inside and outside a country that is more complex than images of veiled women, worn out calligraphy and what a handful of other emblematic images would suggest.

Bonefish Grill

This is the best restaurant I've found out here in Gainesville. The cocktails rival those in most NYC bars. The food is good, well-priced and the staff attentive and friendly. The wine list is solid though safe, and perhaps a few European wines could be thrown in just for a little adventure, but the Francis Ford Coppola cabernet that I had was top notch. It helped that on our second visit the owner came over to introduce himself. He's from Long Island, New York! Here you could feel real Southern hospitality and the bar scene on the weekend, though early by New York City standards (7 pm it was packed!), was certainly cosmopolitan and fun. Click the title which will give you more info, and if you're visiting Gainesville, or anywhere else they have a location, go there!

I'm in Florida

And for those of you who are close to me you know it's not for vacation. Please keep praying for my grandmother, Norma, that she heals completely and has a rapid and full recovery.
Thanks in advance.
