Funny how life brings you around in circles sometimes. Alberto di Fabio I met years ago, liked him, looked at his work, asked him when he'd be showing at Gagosian again, and voila, there he was, in NYC again. And it was a beautiful night indeed. You can see more of Alberto's recent work here.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The Virgins and Free Energy Thanks To Ray Ban

Last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg there was a free concert of Iggy Pop and the Stooges with opening acts by The Virgins and Free Energy. Iggy, as usual, knew how to please the crowd with his wiry body and raspy voice. Here are some pics and video. Hope you enjoy as I did!

Momix: Remix @ The Joyce Theater

My friend Mark Gettes attends every type of art event; visual art, dance, plays, music, movies. He is a actually an authority on contemporary art in the broadest sense of the word. He got great seats for the opening night of Momix, directed by Moses Pendelton, and it was an exceptional show. It's interesting that every world has its own stars, characters and social rules.

The Joyce Theater has been there NYC home for the last couple years.

Art Party to Welcome Back a Former New Yorker

Uptown near the Hudson River in Harlem there is an amazing apartment, a mini mansion, in which a true Renaissance man, Michel, has built a creative and holistic kingdom. There is the English garden, with hammocks, in the back, a stage with complete sound system and balconies looking down on the stage, a huge table, a restaurant quality kitchen, and a bedroom with the most necessary of stripper poles. As you ascend the stairs the banisters all have yoga mats hanging on them. Downstairs are bathrooms and baths, Moroccan riad style.
It was a party to welcome back Jerome Neutres, Special Advisor to the President of the Grand Palais, Paris. Jerome's friend, Mario Rinaldi, the US Exclusive Brand Representative of Champagne Paul Goerg, served the most delicious of rose champagne. There was a flamenco dance performance, a belly dance, and of course there was a dj and dancing.

Mr Brainwash and the Takeover of the World

Mr Brainwash invited my girlfriend to his exhibition opening yesterday, but he forgot to mention that she should come early and get a number! The line was just like in the movie and besides that he was nowhere in site. Until...we went away and came back and he did the even more democratic thing than the first-come-first-serve number system, he came out onto the street to take pics and sign autographs. I got a pic, but I think it's worth a million, groupie and "brainwashed" as I am :)

Drawathon Pics

Hosted by Alexander Charriol and Will Cotton, this was a fun evening for me. I couldn't do the 24 hour run but while I was there "Michael Jackson" performed, as well as the Stumblebums :)

Picasso Still Reigns

At auctions at least.

$106.5 million achieved for Pablo Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust from the Collection of Mrs. Sidney F. Brody
The last two days have been great for auction sales at Christie's. According to their press release: "THE MOST VALUABLE SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION EVER OFFERED AT CHRISTIE'S NEW YORK". Hmmm...

Trinidad Art and Politics

Someone said we ought to listen more to our artists than our politicians but I can't remember who. Obviously I feel the same. In Trinidad it is election time but I had much more enlightenment from going to the Studio Film Club, to an exhibition of Eddie Bowen's work, put on by the artist himself, from a talk about the situation in Haiti at Above Group by journalist Michael Deibert, and from a concert by Jointpop, recently signed to a German label.
