The Kin's Dinner with Thieves: A night to remember
I can't give away the Thieves' hideaway, nor their mode of operations, but needless to say, this was a fun night; great food, great wine, great company, great performance, organized by the Kin and friends of the Kin.

Miss Lily's! The Caribbean comes to NYC thanks to the ever ingenious SB
Having just returned from two months in the Caribbean, I really enjoyed SB's new place Miss Lily's. This week alone (I've been there 3 nights in a row! I love it so much) I've seen Salman Rushdie, Sting, Annie Liebowitz, and some arty types at the Caribbean joint. From the beautiful and friendly staff that greet you at the door, to the over the top, happy colors and vintage record decorations, the oh-so-good reggae and calypso music with a little American-Haitian Fuggis mixed in for good measure, and the soooo-fashionable-they-don't-need-to-be-dressed-well-crowd, this place is made to put you in a warm and sunny frame of mind. And the food! Well the chef and his staff get it right as every plate on the table was clean. Good luck guys, bringing the "flava" back to Manhattan :)

Retna: the Hallelujah World Tour Starts in NYC
What is it about fashion week that gets all these street artists out and about? It must be the celebrities in town, who not only love fashion, but buy art from time to time!
Retna opened up with a refreshing crowd of non art people, lots of LA-ites in baseball caps, and enough celebrities to bring out the paparazzi!
TMNK (The Me Nobody Knows aka NOBODY) opens on the Bowery, NYC
Jean Michel Basquiat used to frequent this neighborhood, so why not TMNK? I had the pleasure of meeting the artist and though he seems quite modest his work speaks loud and clear. Go see it! Runs through February 2011.
351 Bowery between 3rd and 4th Streets

Can you tell I'm back in NYC?
After two months in the Caribbean when technology seemed more a thing of fun than a thing of urgent necessity, I didn't post much on anything anywhere. But lots did happen and there were some beautiful moments of art though perhaps I wanted to keep them to myself rather than share them with the world :)
But I'm back, and much much much more art to come in 2011. Put your seatbelts on cuz it's gonna be a wild ride!

Earl Lovelace Booksigning at the Carlton Savannah Trinidad
Earl Lovelace's new book, Is Just A Movie, was launched in style on the roof of the Carlton Savannah Hotel recently. As usual, I had a fabulous time!
